Concerned Citizens Statement

A Statement from Concerned Citizens of Sierra Leone

A call for the full implementation of the 80 recommendations and the peaceful resolution of the areas of divergence.

We the concerned citizens of Sierra Leone speak with one voice guided by love for our nation, respect for democratic values, and commitment to peaceful progress.

We believe the official 80 recommendations provide an important roadmap for stronger electoral systems, greater transparency, improved public communication, institutional accountability, and democratic confidence.

We also recognise that the final report documented areas of divergence where the parties did not reach consensus. These unresolved matters continue to shape public debate because they touch questions of election legitimacy, access to election data, political detainees, justice, reintegration, and continuous dialogue.

The 80 recommendations and the divergence should not be treated as the same thing. The 80 recommendations are agreed reform measures, while the divergence records unresolved matters that still require political wisdom, lawful engagement, and confidence-building.

We respectfully call on all leaders, institutions, and stakeholders to demonstrate courage, wisdom, and commitment in implementing the 80 recommendations and in addressing the areas of divergence through peaceful dialogue, lawful action, and responsible leadership.

National Statement on Democratic Reform

July 18, 2023. Author: Madam Franca Jalloh.

As preserved in the reference material, this statement expressed deep concern about democracy, human rights, election credibility, and the need for stronger international attention to Sierra Leone's situation.

It called for reform, protection of rights, and action in response to what it described as flawed elections, arbitrary arrests, and wider democratic concerns.

The statement is presented here as part of the historical public record and should be read in that civic and political context.
